What We Are About
Open hearts, open minds, open doors...
Our Purpose: Helping people become followers of Jesus in
this world in preparation for the next.
Our Mission: We are a grace awakened fellowship
of believers, who are moving toward the obedience of
faith, steadfastness of hope, and perfection in love, that
we might receive insight from above, to be the people
God intended us to be, bearing witness to the
good news of Jesus, striving to make our community
a better place for all.
Our Method of Doing Theology: In the United Methodist
Church we discern God's guidance and direction primarily
through Scripture, but in interaction with tradition,
reason and our own Christian experience. In our church
it is OK to ask tough questions. We would agree with
Catholic theologian Mark Ellis who said, "Good theology
is asking the questions that need to be asked about the
history we are creating."
Our Style: We are a non strict church in
that we don't subscribe to long lists of do's and don'ts
that people have to follow to be United Methodist. We
proclaim the truth from God's Word as we see it, but
allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct in personal
application of the message.
We are a diverse church in that we come from various
backgrounds. In areas such as politics or theology
United Methodist Christians see things from different
perspectives. Our unity is found at the foot of cross,
where we find grace and forgiveness.
We are an ecumenical church in the sense that we strive
to work with other Christians in the community for the
common good. Like other confessional denominations we
affirm the essentials of the Chistian faith as outlined
in statements of faith like the Apostles' or the
Nicene Creed. With John Wesley the founder of the Methodist
movement in matterns of Christian doctrine we would say
"on essentials unity, on non essentials charity."
